Research Fields

The immune system is developed to defend the host from invading pathogens and to remove disease, and this protection is given by the innate and adaptive immune systems working together. Professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs), such as dendritic cells (DC), macrophages, and B lymphocytes, are required for the production of particular adaptive immunity. Because of their ability to phagocytize or endocytose protein antigens and enzymatically digest them to generate peptides, which are then loaded onto class I or class II MHC proteins and "presented" to the cell surface T-cell receptor (TCR), these cells play critical roles in the induction of adaptive immune responses.
