Professional summary Over 13 years of multidisciplinary professional specializations including teaching and research experience in field of Biotechnology and Agricultural Sciences. Teaching experience in Biotechnology to post-graduate and undergraduate students with over eight years experience in screening and evaluation of germ-plasm varieties, allele mining of genes conferring salt tolerance, identification and validation of differentially expressed genes at National Institutes i.e., Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR)/Directorate of Rice Research (DRR), Hyderabad and National Research Centre of Plant Biotechnology (NRCPB), Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. I possess a sound knowledge of PCR-based allele mining, qRT PCR, scanning electron microscope (SEM), drought screening techniques, physiological/biochemical analysis and microarray techniques with demonstrated ability to use statistical analysis and well versed with different Bioinformatics techniques, molecular breeding techniques and statistical analysis tools. I possess the ability to work independently as well as in a team with strong interpersonal relationship and leadership skills. I was an invited Visiting Faculty under a research program on Detection of freshness among cereals crops using fluorescence spectroscopy to determine the fluorescence level based on the presence of fluorescent components at Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan for a period of three months from 30th November 2015 to 29th February 2016. I was felicitated with Scientist Associate Award by Society for Scientific Development in Agriculture and Technology (SSDAT) at National Conference on Emerging Challenges and Opportunities in Biotic and Abiotic Stress Management (ECOBASM - 2014), 13th and 14th December 2014 at Directorate of Rice Research, Hyderabad. I was an Invited Young Scientist with IRRI-PHILIPPINES Sponsorship to attend and present a part of my doctoral research work entitled Whole Transcriptomic (RNA) Sequencing and Leaf Photosynthetic Response to Salinity in High Yielding Rice Introgression Lines Derived from KMR3 X O. rufipogon, at 4th International Rice Congress (IRC2014) between 27th and 31st October 2014 at Bangkok, Thailand. |
Screening of germ-plasm varieties, morphological, physiological, biochemical and molecular analysis like germination analysis, ion analysis using flame photometer, anti-oxidant estimations of samples at its different growth stages. Plant DNA and RNA isolation, Allele mining for salinity tolerance among introgression lines (ILs) by using SSR markers/salinity tolerant specific primers like SKC1, SHMT3, CBSDP and DREB2B was a novel study. In silico study in allele mining lead to identification of novel cis elements in salt-tolerant in comparison to salt sensitive introgression line. The whole-transcriptomic and microarray analysis for identification of differentially expressed genes in the most-tolerant and most-sensitive rice introgression lines ILs). Validated differentially expressed genes by using qRT-PCR and demonstration of expression of methionine biosynthetic genes. The cloning of SAMS1, SAMS2 and SAMS3 genes in pGEMT and pET28a expression vectors using salt-tolerant shoot samples was successfully carried out. Thus, I got exposure and experience by working in two national level, state-of-the art laboratories in the field of plant biotechnology and molecular breeding techniques under the overall guidance of two national professors both at DRR, Hyderabad and NRCPB, IARI, New Delhi.

Physiological and Molecular Basis of Salt Stress Tolerance in Rice – A Review
Physiological and Molecular Basis of Salt Stress Tolerance in Rice – A Review
The sanctioned project for Dr. Pushpalatha G., Principle Investigator, is helpful to develop salt-tolerant rice genotypes with high-yielding potential. The approach will efficiently explore available genomic resources to identify candidate genes.
Dr. Pushpalatha G., is a Co-PI in the project with a total funding of Rs. 30 lakhs for THREE years.
